It All Starts Here
A quiet welcome, a space to land.
The first appointment unfolds gently — a calm moment to pause, reflect, and be met with understanding. It’s a peaceful beginning to care that honors both the body and the whole self.
What to Expect at Your First Appointment
If you’re new to acupuncture, it’s natural to have questions. Your first session is a calm, unhurried space where we explore your health in a way that looks beyond symptoms—considering the full picture of body, mind and lifestyle.
Initial Consultation
Our initial appointment lasts 90 minutes. We’ll talk through your health history, current concerns, and anything else you’d like to share. You’ll also receive your first acupuncture treatment, relevant to your diagnosis during this session.
Follow-Up Treatments
Ongoing sessions are one hour and tailored to your individual needs. By treating the root cause of your symptoms we give your body the space it needs to heal and find lasting balance. Where appropriate, techniques like moxa, gua sha, or cupping may be added.
Your Treatment Plan
I’ll create a treatment plan to support your care, which may include gentle lifestyle suggestions. As acupuncture works cumulatively, a short series of sessions is often recommended to allow the effects to build over time.

Acupuncture restores balance and enhances the body's natural healing mechanisms by inserting fine needles at specific points along meridians, or energy channels. This process regulates Qi flow, stimulating nerves, muscles, and connective tissues to release neurotransmitters and hormones, thereby reducing pain, inflammation, and inducing relaxation. It also influences physiological processes like blood circulation, immune function, and hormonal balance. Though ongoing research is unraveling its precise mechanisms, acupuncture's holistic approach addresses symptoms and underlying imbalances, promoting overall wellness.

Owing to the flexibility and fine gauge of the needles (similar to two human hairs), the sensation of needling is usually minimal. Patients may feel a dull ache at the acupuncture point, which swiftly dissipates and is generally not discomforting. Many find acupuncture relaxing and feel very calm during and after a treatment; you may also feel a little tired or sleepy so if possible, try to arrange a relatively restful and quiet day, especially for your first treatment.

Acupuncture is one of the safest medical treatments currently on offer in the UK, in fact in 2001 a number of studies concluded that the risk of serious adverse reaction to acupuncture is less than 1 in 10,000. Any minor side effects that do occur, such as dizziness or bruising around needle points, are infrequent, mild and self-correcting.
